The Doc comes back from the future and has an entirely different outfit and somehow got facial rejuvenation surgery. How would he be able to afford it if future money doesn't exist? However, it is quite clear he spent considerable time in the future, it is entirely feasible that he started by finding a way around this problem (for example, the very time travel betting or stock investing he later argues against in this movie, he might have done some of this himself and squirreled it away in 1985 to access in 2015. It's even possible he faced issues that made him realize that it was a mistake to have tried it, convincing him to warn Marty against risking it himself).
