SPOILER: Even several hundred years from now, when the film takes place, all of the Voyager probes would still be in the immediate vicinity of the Solar System and certainly would not be able to encounter an alien space probe in a distant part of the Galaxy and then return to the vicinity of Earth, a trek that would require many thousands of years.However, as pointed out by characters in the film, the probe may have fallen into what the movie calls a black hole (what astrophysicists would call a wormhole today). It was also made clear in the film that V'ger moved very quickly.
