The wooden "cage" of the elevator car and the fact that there are no lift cables in the shot from above indicate that the elevator is the hydraulic type. These cannot fall at high speed because they are raised and lowered by a hydraulic piston below, like an automobile lube rack. They are not suitable for buildings of more than 2-3 stories.
