After the final gun fight in the saloon Shane is wounded in the side by Morgan Ryker (the John Dierkes character) who is using a rifle in the saloon loft. As Shane rides away, Joey (who alerted Shane to the man in the loft) says he would have never shot you if you would have seen him, he wouldn't have even cleared the holster. There was no holster involved since Morgan Ryker was using a rifle.
