John-Boy tells Janet that only members of his immediate family get away with calling him John-Boy. This is not true. Everyone who knew him growing up, from close friends like the Baldwin sisters, to distant relatives like Ike and Corabeth Godsey, to friends on the mountain like Yancey Tucker call him by his childhood name. The only people that call him John are people he introduced himself to starting in college and continuing professionally.
