Despite the sudden arrival of several police cars with multiple officers swarming to the lair of Alex Brandt, he escapes from the outside rear of the building with not single officer in sight--an incomprehensible blunder since standard police procedure from time immemorial mandates both front and back exits be covered and guarded. A more tactical and believable escape route incorporated into the screenplay would have been, for example, a long tunnel having an inconspicuous outlet.
