When Rivetti overpowers Benefield and shoves him into the wardroom and after the COB says, "Mr. Rivetti, I'm impressed", Rivetti replies "I never liked him, sir!" If Rivetti was addressing the COB, he should not have addressed a Navy Chief Petty Officer as "sir."
