Dr. Townsend describes the tarantula as belonging to the genus Arachnida. Arachnida is in fact a biological Class, not a Genus. Classes are four rungs above Genera on the ladder of scientific classifications. The most common species of tarantula in the Sonoran desert of Arizona, where the film is set, is Aphonopelma chalcodes, the first word identifying the spider's genus. However, in many scenes the "stunt" tarantula is most likely a Brachypelma hamorii , which is native to Mexico.
