It is not so uncommon for a lawyer to recuse himself during a trial as the ending suggests. Kevin would not get disbarred for it, but he might get a smaller punishment from the Florida bar because he announced his recusal to the whole court rather than in private with the judge. These things have to be done carefully, as there is often an assumption that the lawyer recused because he found out his client was lying--which was the case here--and the recusal can therefore hurt the case or cause a mistrial.And though Kevin didn't make any promises to the reporter Larry, he suggested they could talk later about the story, yet even after a recusal Kevin would be absolutely sworn not to reveal anything about the client. This would more likely get him disbarred but also sued.
