The rail gun shoots a small aluminum projectile at "nearly the speed of light", 186,000 miles per second, or about seven times around the earth in a second. Yet, when the bad guys shoot these things, you can actually see the projectiles flying through the air, they're not even as fast as a cheap BB gun.
