When McCoy jumps out of the plane it is clearly dark out. However, when he lands, it is broad daylight.He wasn't seen landing so the time of day is unknown, but certainly still dark. Rather than try to find his way through a dark jungle, he waited up in a tree for daylight until Quiquina arrived.
