When Violet and Klaus are about to close the door in front of Stephano, he rams a knife in to the door, and he even twist the knife a bit. This should at least make a mark. Later when Stephano asks if the kids can help him with his bags, Violet turns around facing Uncle Monty. Now we can see the door and there is no mark where Stephano rammed the knife in to.
