The 7th Cavalry consisted of twelve companies (700 men). Five of the twelve companies were killed at Little Big Horn after Custer divided his force. At his wife's graveside, Brittles says that Custer's "entire command" was killed, which isn't true.He obviously meant the soldiers that were actually with Custer at Little Big Horn.
