A scene in the final part mentions the Battle of Sevastopol, which sets the scene in 1854/55 during the Crimae war. Unlike shown in the movie Wilhelm Bauer didn't flew from the Russians in that time or destroyed his ship since it was financed by the Russians. He was working in Russia until 1858 and left Russia due to disputes with the officials.
