On the card in the opening credits, it says "Based upon the ancient Robin Hood legends". Robin Hood is a medieval legend, generally considered to have taken place in the late 12th or early 13th-century. Ancient history ended at approximately 500 AD. The legends of King Arthur on the other hand are said to have been based on a character who lived in the age just before medieval times.
