In the cafeteria scene when Edward says "I'd rather hear your theories" about how he has super strength, Bella replies with "I have considered radioactive spiders and Kryptonite". Kryptonite is not the source of Superman's power, instead it drains his power and makes him weak. However Kryptonite has been the source of power for other people within Superman's mythology, including numerous villains-of-the-week on Smallville.
