Mr Banks is a stuffy, literal-minded martinet, who rules his family very strictly. It is not believable that he would allow his wife to be a suffragette. Yet he never tells her to stop her activities, although they could lead to her arrest and other bad publicity, which, as an employee of a very conservative institution, he must avoid.
