Brigadier General Billy Ford relieves Major General Donnie McClintock of command towards the end of the movie, prevent the destruction of Cedar Creek. Ford as a Brigadier General is of a lower rank to a Major General and commonly would be illegal to perform such an act. McClintock himself should not obey that order. The only exception could be under § 1088. Relief of a Commanding Officer by a Subordinate US Navy regulations. Therefore, McClintock could stay in command and issue the order.
