When Hughes asks Jack Frye how much controlling interest in TWA would cost him, Frye responds, "Call it $15 million". In reality, Hughes had to purchase only 99,293 shares at $8.25 to gain control of TWA; a total of $819,167.25. Adjusted for inflation in 2004, when this film was released, that would only be $11.1 million. Only when adjusted for inflation in 2020 would it be $15.2 million. That said, this is an equivalent, not the actual sum.
Hughes later did buy an additional $1.5 million in TWA stock, however, this is a far cry from the $15 million stated in the film.
