(at around 2h 5 mins) Russell Casse's airplane was destroyed by the impact with the alien ship, not the jammed missile exploding on the plane. Such a crash would detonate the warheads on air-to-air missiles. That the missile had jammed has no bearing on whether or not it exploded.
