At the end of the film, Grandma Florence Norris and Richie are both awarded Congressional Medals of Honor by President Dale's daughter, Taffy. Although the Medal of Honor is usually given to members of the armed forces and civilians are given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, seven civilians have received the former under unusual circumstances.
