Throughout the series references are made to Gestapo activities in neutral Spain and Argentina. The Gestapo was an internal secret police that operated in German-controlled territories. They also would not carry identity cards if they did operate there. Foreign intelligence operations fell to either the military's Abwehr or the SD section of the SS.
