Yoda learns in Star Wars: Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith from Qui-Gon Jinn that a Jedi can become a force ghost after death. He then teaches the technique to Obi-Wan. However, Vader was never taught how, yet appears as a ghost at the end of the movie. Sidious and Vader were planning on discovering the secret to cheating death, Vader very well could have discovered on his own or learned from Sidious how to become one with the force.
