In the film, when exiled in Siberia, Alexis berates his father, Nicholas and wonders why he abdicated on behalf of him. Historically, after abdicating, Nicholas gave big explanation and reasons for why he did it (to his whole family and government). It's unlikely Alexis would forget the reason.
