After Mac the night watchman is killed in the robbery by Don Gregor, several characters--including police--refer to Gregor as a "cop killer", and Lt. Johns even tells Gregor's sister that "your brother killed a policeman". However, Johns stated earlier that Mac was a retired cop who took a job as the night watchman to earn extra money, so he was not actually an active-duty officer at the time of his death, which meant that Gregor was not actually a "cop killer".
