When Hickey as a ventriloquist did the speaking voice of the crow, the bird was opening its mouth. But on every previous occasion when the crow opened its mouth you would hear its natural bird sound, therefore, one should have also heard bird sounds simultaneously with Hickey's speaking "crow" voice.
