The opening crawl states that the Resistance (with the backing of the Republic) and the First Order are both searching for Luke Skywalker. However, at the end of the film, when Luke's whereabouts are finally known (with the map completed by R2-D2), only Rey and Chewbacca go to find Skywalker on Ahch-To. If the entire Resistance/Republic is looking for Skywalker, why are Rey and Chewie the only members of the Resistance who go after him? Among many other possible reasons, it is obvious only Rey and Chewbacca go because the General of the Resistance sent them and didn't need to send anyone else. Or maybe those two volunteered and didn't need the others. Just because "everyone" is looking, it doesn't mean "everyone" will go after they are found.
