At 22:04, the First Officer is attempting to contact Tahiti Control. He states he is "broadcasting in the blind" but then states "how do you read" in the same transmission. A blind transmission, or broadcasting in the blind, is when the person transmitting the message makes the transmission without obtaining a receipt, or acknowledgment of reception, from the intended receiving station. A blind transmission, in the case of this aircraft is very reasonable. Transmitting their position to ATC regardless of receiving a response when your receiver is getting blocked by interference from lightning is smart.
