The film never explains whether or not Betty owns the forest cabin; however, Peter David's novelization reveals that it is, in fact, her's. General Ross built the place, and Betty's mother decorated it. After Mrs. Ross died, the general lost his taste for it as it reminded him of his late wife, so he left it to Betty to use as she pleased.
