The movie makes it look like the Rhine river near Remagen flows through a steep valley. The town of Remagen however is built on the flat bank of the river.
The hill on the far side is 200m high (Erpeler Ley), and the hill behind Remagen is 180m high, but it is about one km back of the bridge abutments. Apart from the odd wide spot, or where the hills were broken, the Rhine in that general area ~is~ in a ravine. (see Google Maps)
