The Eagle Squadron pilots were all fighter pilots which had transferred back into the United States Army Air Forces and one particular fighter outfit, the 4th Fighter Group (334th, 335th, and 336th Fighter Squadrons) late in 1942. (This was by special agreement with the British government at a time when the Americans needed an infusion of combat-experienced pilots for the Eighth Fighter Command.) Eagle Squadron pilots thus didn't fly medium bombers. They flew Spitfires with the R.A.F. and P-47s (and later P-51s) with the U.S.A.A.F.).
