When Windows is taking blood samples from the thumb of the survivors, he uses the same scalpel, wiping it on his jeans before he cuts the next thumb. This would not only be bad practice in normal circumstances, but would invalidate the test as there is a risk of infected blood cells infecting the next person to be cut, but also could result in 'clean' blood samples being contaminated with infected blood samples.
