The type of training the pilots would do for flying the canyon approach would be based on muscle memory. Each turn would be based on timing. Unless they were able to find a canyon locally with exactly the same configuration, the training would be wasted.Maverick states during the briefing that they will fly a route in their nav system that simulates the canyon.
