At the end, when Dr. Loomis & Laurie are in the operating room with Michael about to break in, Dr Loomis is releasing flammable gasses into the room to create a fire or explosion. One of the cylinder tanks is labeled "ETHER". Ether is a liquid and not a gas. It was not supplied in large cylinders but in small cans.
