Meilin is told that she has only "one chance" to banish the curse, but her mother and all of her aunts are shown undergoing the ritual at the end of the movie, presumably all for the second time.The reason she believes they only have one chance at this is most likely because the longer they wait, the harder it is to separate from the panda, especially since the red moon isn't that common.
