Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that the only people who will be saved after Armageddon are the 144,000 that will go to heaven. They believe that the rest of the people who God spares will live forever on a cleansed paradise Earth. Michael's family would not have referred to themselves and their loved ones as part of the 144,000.
