When Hicks is sprayed by acid blood during the colony escape, some of it gets on his skin and causes only relatively minor scarring, despite the fact that in both the first film and this one, it is established that the aliens' blood can burn holes through metal flooring that is much more durable than soft human tissue. However, earlier in the film Bishop explained that the acid rapidly oxidizes into an inert state. It's possible the oxygen carried in human blood (as well as the oxygen encountered by spraying through the air was enough to keep Hicks from suffering a more serious injury. Alternately, the drop that got on his skin may have been minor compared to what got on his armor.
