Chon tells Roy that the Emperor of China is 12 years old. The Emperor in 1881 was Guangxu, who was 10 years old. Guangxu was chosen as Emperor in 1875 by his aunt, Empress Dowager Cixi, who, in effect, controlled China from 1861 until her death in 1908.
