When Spock is talking to Kirk up the face of El Capitan, Kirk reaches up for a new hold and his hand, in closeup, slips. Then Kirk's foot slips, again in closeup, from a lower toehold and Kirk falls. The two holds are the same piece of studio "rock face", which looks very fake - the granite El Capitan consists of does not look as glossy.
