When the power fails, it is pitch black in Samantha's room, yet when she exits the room there is some light there as well as in the hallway beyond what her phone is putting out. Likewise, a few minutes later when Samantha wakes up at 3:13 AM and turns on a lamp, it is clearly daylight outside her window.
