It was previously suggested that, when Taggert's men are sitting around the campfire eating beans, they would not immediately burst into serious flatulence because it takes time for the beans to travel through the bodies digestive tract before flatulence occurs. However, having been on that diet for days or weeks, they would have presumably been constantly flatulent. Moreover, the peristalsis that follows ingestion, would encourage any solids and gases in the colon to move further down immediately.
