When the Martians attack Earth for the first time out in the Nevada desert, Nathalie is lying on the ground and her pet Chihuahua is running around, while Jason is crawling toward her. As they reach toward each other and she pulls on his hand, it comes off and the dog carries it away. A shot back to Jason's skeleton shows it laying there with an outstretched arm ... except the hand is still attached. If the skin had simply peeled off and that was what the dog took, it would have collapsed like a glove, but the dog has a fully dense hand that it bites into.
