When Davis catches a ride in Chicago with the guy going to New Jersey, the sign behind him is for EAST Illinois Route 92. IL Route 92 terminates at the junction with US Route 34 in La Moille, IL, although it may have terminated in Mendota, IL in 1961. Regardless, one would have to travel almost 100 miles west of Chicago just to reach the eastern terminus of IL Route 92 -- there is definitely no way to travel east on IL Route 92 from Chicago, as the sign indicates.
