A Douglas DC-2 carried a maximum 14 passengers. That plus any baggage or freight aboard could max at 6,100 lbs. So, stripping this plane down to nothing but 4 people and a child in order to take off would seem to be overkill. And taking off in mere seconds from rocky, uneven ground in a jungle also strains credibility. Planes need flat-surface runways (manmade or natural) for enough time and room to increase their needed airspeed for lift-off.
