No one would intentionally kill a captured US pilot. They would be a very valuable bargaining chip. Keeping a prisoner would also be useful for propaganda if they had flown where they should not. Killing a US pilot in such a situation would not only lead to a diplomatic crisis, but almost certainly invite retaliation.
