SPOILER: Enola uses a cipher disk given to her by her mother to decode a message in the newspaper. However, it turns out that her brother Sherlock was the one who wrote the message, and he would have had no way of knowing about the decoding tool.Sherlock Holmes is canonically established as a skilled code breaker. He would be able to deduce the existence of an encrypter/decrypter just from Enola being so eager to look at that specific, obviously coded, item in the paper. As code systems go, it is a fairly easy one to crack, and it would be mere child's play for Sherlock to work out how it works and to replicate it.
