Tony opens a gas line in the kitchen after starting the microwave. The sparks in the oven are shown to ignite the gas. But he has already started a raging fire a few feet away using the cooking oil (which doesn't actually burn as shown, either). Those flames would have ignited the gas long before a few sparks inside a tiny metal compartment with small vent holes.
