Later in the movie the shark is chasing the fishing vessel Orca after the intrepid crew has harpooned it and put "three barrels" on him, which are clearly seen following them in the background of the shot. What is also clearly seen in this shot is the wake from the towline that attaches the barrels to the fishing vessel itself.
