(at around 16 mins) At the beginning of the film, when all the characters are being flown to the island, the helicopter is flying directly towards it and Hammond is seated with his back to the cockpit facing the rear of the helicopter. When Hammond says "There it is", in reference to "the island", he is looking to his left and towards the rear of the helicopter, (his version of 10 o'clock if the rear of the helicopter was 12 o'clock) which would be a view of the vast ocean, not the island in the front of the helicopter.
