At the beginning of the movie we see some archive footage about WW2, Hitler and some warships. The latter is actually a WW1 film, showing the German Hochseeflotte (High Seas Fleet) heading to Scapa Flow after capitulation. In fact no WW2 era battleships ran on coal, causing the thick black smoke we can see in this footage.
